The DEL Key Slipup Felt Around the World

YouTube retools its influencer marketing platform... Pinterest's new partnership will bring more content to its platform... and Instagram tries to claw back some engagement... And more!

YouTube’s Updated DIY Influencer Marketing Program

YouTube is planning to revamp its influencer-marketing program, BrandConnect, to make it more self-serve and less hands-on.

The program, formerly known as FameBit, is the company’s in-house marketing tool that matches brands with creators for paid campaigns.

Late last year, some creators noticed changes to the service after the BrandConnect team reached out to influencers and talent managers inviting them to join a self-service BrandConnect pilot program, which is different from what it currently offers, according to emails viewed by Business Insider.

The form to sign up for the pilot said:

This new self-service pilot is an extension of the existing BrandConnect program, enabling creators to directly receive branded content deals from interested advertisers, follow an easy step-by-step workflow, and get paid — all in one place! You'll have the ability to review offers right in YouTube Studio, and only accept the deals that you're interested in.

A talent manager noted that their YouTube contact said the new self-service model would still offer deals, but rates might be lower than what BrandConnect typically offers due to the economic slowdown.

As a result, several Business Insider sources reported that the economics of the influencer program started to make less sense for the company because what had begun as a marketplace platform had evolved into more of an agency offering bespoke services for big brands, which required more staffing resources.

BrandConnect's new direction was communicated shortly after the tech giant's January round of layoffs, which impacted 12,000 employees.

YouTube did not respond to requests for comment.

Instagram Pushes ‘Memories’

Instagram wants you to post old content —  The platform is testing a new 'Memory' Story prompt which is similar to Facebook's 'On this day' feature.

For those in the test group, once you tap on the Memory story, you'll see previous stories that you shared around this date.

As Social Media Today points out it's pretty much a reiteration of Instagram’s ‘Archive’ feature which can be found in the three-bar menu on your profile. But this option gives brands and creators more of a direct push to re-share their past Stories.

Big Whoops – Twitter’s Outage Was By Accident

We now know the reason behind Twitter's major outage that took place earlier this week.

On Wednesday, several users were unable to tweet and some received a warning that said:

You are over the daily limit for sending tweets.

Platformer reported yesterday that the outage took place because an employee accidentally deleted data about these limits. And in a karmic turn of events, the team that worked on that service left the company in November due to Elon Musk’s cuts.
